How the Calculator Works

The calculator estimates what the truck would spend while idling, subtracts estimated APU operating costs, adds any optional advanced savings entered, and compares annual savings against net APU investment.

Truck Idle Cost

Idle hours are multiplied by nights used, truck fuel burn, and diesel price.

APU Operating Cost

Diesel APU cost includes power pack fuel, heater fuel, and APU maintenance. Envidia includes heater fuel, optional charging cost, and APU maintenance.

Payback Time

Net investment is calculated as equipment cost minus residual value, then divided by annual savings.

Important Savings Note This estimate does not automatically include reduced truck engine maintenance, aftertreatment savings, DPF cleaning or replacement costs, maintenance downtime expenses, hotel load or hotel hour expenses, motel expenses, diesel fired heater hours where comparable, or engine wear savings caused by lowering long idle hours. These can be entered in the optional advanced savings area when applicable.
